Bury FC Case Study

Football club Bury FC wanted to improve sales of season tickets and grow their event hospitality attendance; so we did just that with targeted social advertising.

The Brief

With the team dominating on the field, Bury Football Club wanted to increase their sales of half season and full season tickets , in a bid to attract new fans.

They also wanted to increase their commercial sales, and help the team to bring in new leads via hospitality events.

JellyBean were tasked with using paid social advertising (primarily Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) in order to achieve this.


Bury FC already have fantastic exposure via social media thanks to their media team, therefore we were able to use a wide range of assets to test different ad formats and creatives.

Goal scoring videos proved to hit the back of the net for season ticket adverts; whilst crowd and atmosphere snippets pulled in companies for hospitality events.

We worked closely with the commercial team to understand the demographics of previous clubs sponsors and used this information in our ad targeting.

We were able to achieve strong Paid Social results within a short space of time for Bury FC. 

Following a period of testing advertising styles and targeting methods, we found carousel and video assets to be the strongest performing for half season ticket sales via social, generating a 5:1 return on investment on average.  The use of video assets also helped to increase engagement on the ads and a growth in social following.

From an event hospitality point of view, we were able to encourage businesses that had never worked with Bury FC before to attend a hospitality event; leading to a number of commercial deals agreed.
